Sotheby’s International Realty associate
Keith Bradley
has dedicated more than two decades of his life
to the Latham Centers, an organization providing vital
support to individuals with special needs on Cape Cod. Inspired by
a call for volunteers from the new CEO, Keith joined the board 22
years ago. Since then, he has played a pivotal role in milestone
achievements, including the establishment of a fundraising golf
tournament and the expansion of Latham’s facilities.

Despite financial challenges, Keith remains committed to supporting
the center’s programs, which include residential living
services and individual care, along with educational
and vocational programs. In recognition of his exceptional
dedication and invaluable contributions, he was recently honored
with the opening of the Keith W. Bradley Building at the Latham
Centers. This new dormitory building is testament to Keith’s
enduring impact on the organization and the lives it serves. Read
on as Keith reflects on his philanthropic journey, and imparts
valuable advice on the importance of prioritizing compassion above
all else.

Tell us a bit about your involvement with the Latham Centers!
What initially inspired you to get involved with this organization?
How long have you been involved?

Shortly after I moved to Cape Cod, a new CEO was seeking volunteers
to staff her board at Latham Centers, then a little-known treatment
center for children and adults with Prader-Willi Syndrome and other
special needs.  Having served on a board for my niece’s
pre-school, I was asked if I would join the Latham Board.
That was 22 years ago.  As  a new but enthusiastic member
of the Cape Cod community, the Latham Centers presented a helpful
opportunity for me to support special needs clients on the
Cape.

Can you share any favorite memories from your work with the
Latham Centers over the years?

During my tenure as Board Chair, the Latham Centers were able to
begin a fund-raising Golf Tournament at  Ocean Edge
Resort.  Latham also broke ground for their second dormitory,
having established the first as the Yawkey Dormitory.  Bowling
competitions, Hawaiian nights, annual Year End celebrations, and
special Christmas workshops featuring the handicrafts of Latham
students are all highlights of the year.

What are some of the challenges you’ve
faced?

Like many agencies, Latham Centers is always in need of funds to
support the programs for the students and the inhabitants of the
eleven group homes, while paying competitive rates for staff.
Tuition, housing, and medical support are all at the forefront at
Latham, the premier treatment center for children and adults
diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome, a genetic disease for which
there is no cure. The need is great, and there is a waiting list
for Latham’s services.

As an agent focused on philanthropic giving, how do you stay
engaged throughout the year?

I strive to stay involved on every level and remain dedicated to
the cause. During my 22 years on Latham’s board, I have served
as Treasurer, Vice Chair and Board Chair, as well as a committee
member for Finance and, most recently, the search committee to
replace the retiring CEO.  Now, I serve as Board Chair of
Transitions
Centers, Inc
., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Latham Centers,
which provides day programs for clients with autism and other
special needs who have aged out of the system.

Do you have any recommendations for those considering taking
a deeper dive into philanthropy?

Hallelujah!  Volunteer wherever you can.  So many
non-profits need active participants to support their causes.
Start small to learn about being a board member, and build your
leadership skills at every level.  It’s not always about
the money — your care, compassion and willingness to show up will
always take center stage.
