The ever so popular car-sharing company known as Zipcar will
soon be moving its headquarters from 25 First Street in Cambridge
to Bostons Innovation District.
Recently termed this Innovation District by Mayor Thomas M. Menino,
this area roughly comprising of South
Bostons Seaport and Fort Port Districts is hoped to become a
new vibrant residential
area of the city in the next few years.
Mayor Menino has been quoted regarding the meaning behind this
Innovation District by saying, A new approach is called for on the
waterfront one that is both more deliberate and more experimental.
The massive expanse of the South Boston waterfront, with its
existing knowledge base, opportunity for growth, and world-class
infrastructure is ripe to produce world-class products and
services. Moreover, we also highlighted in a past blog that there
are already many projects that
are either in the works or are anticipated to begin very soon.
Scott Griffith, the CEO of Zipcar, shared that the Innovation
District, …will provide Zipcar with exactly the atmosphere we are
looking for to attract and retain a great pool of talent as we move
closer to achieving our vision of more car sharers than car owners
in major cities around the globe. The over two hundred individuals
of Zipcar will soon call this rapidly developing District their
working home. This news is something that comes as great excitement
for Zipcar users who can blatantly see how dedicated the firm truly
is to their growth and future products and services.
