Agent Spotlight: Laura Johnson

Laura Johnson, a real estate professional based in Chatham on Cape Cod, has a unique way of marketing her listings- host-style property videos. With over twenty years of living on the Cape, Laura knows what sets properties apart and has the best recommendations for every season.

When did you start making host-style property videos and why did you pivot to that style?
I started doing host-style videos when I decided to market each property uniquely.

What goes into making one of these videos? What is the process?
Although some agents use scripts and other formats for making the videos, I’m a true adlib persona- where I focus on the message while maintaining a true sense of the property’s best attributes while not sounding like I’m reading or rehearsed. After all, I’m a realtor, not an actor.

What advice do you have for other real estate agents interested in making property videos in this style?
Like anything else, one shoe does not fit all, but if you find you like being on camera it’s a win.

What do you love most about your role as a real estate advisor?
I love, love, getting to know the why behind each real estate transaction. Everyone has a story to tell.  It can be a happy one, maybe buying your first vacation home where you have fond memories as a child and now want to recreate it for your own family. Or it can be a life change, having to leave the home you never thought of selling because it’s the right thing to do-  moving closer to your adult children to share in grandkids’ lives or due to your own health necessities. There’s always a story to tell.

What are some of your favorite local hobbies, activities, or organizations that you participate in?
Walking the Cape Cod beaches from Sandwich to Nauset all year long is a must for my husband and me along with Donovan our senior Yorkie.  Whether taking a cool dip in October or walking the beach after a winter storm well bundled up to see the change in the landscape and what the tide brought in – is always an adventure.  Just make sure to really bundle up! Every year I choose a local organization to give back to with a focus on Cape Cod.

What do you love most about where you live and work? Any favorite spots on Cape?
After 24 years on Cape, I’m still considered a transplant and that’s ok. Most of the folks here are from everywhere and anywhere.  There are homeowners from all over the world, ex: the United Kingdom, California, Canada, Italy, and France.  The Cape is a true melting pot where diverse nationalities find common ground in their love for the Cape.  I’m very fortunate to love where I live and love where I work.  Helping others find and retain the Cape Cod way of life is a true gift.
I have many favorite spots to choose from: our secret beach in Barnstable- Not telling- to Chatham Bars Inn in the summer and their terrific New Year’s Eve Weekend, Skaket Beach, Hot Chocolate Sparrow for the best chocolate croissant in Orleans,  Five Bays Bistro and Dowses Beach in Osterville to East Bay Grille in Plymouth.  I just can’t pick one- every place is unique and special throughout the year.

What are three sources of joy in your week?
1- Coffee, chocolate, and wine only count as one.
2-Continuous learning and growth – the real estate industry is always evolving, and I enjoy staying informed about market trends, new technologies, and best practices. Each week brings new challenges and opportunities to grow my skills and knowledge.
3- Helping clients find their dream homes- there’s nothing more rewarding than guiding clients through the process of buying or selling a home and witnessing their excitement when they find the perfect fit.
