Gibson Gives Back: The DeWolfe Group

Tammy
DeWolfe
and
Jennifer Petze
of the DeWolfe Group recently expanded
their volunteering endeavors after learning about a local
organization, School on Wheels of Massachusetts, from a client.
With a background in 5Ks and physical challenges to support
initiatives that offer hope and assistance to young lives, the
team embarked on a new way to support a similar
mission.

1. What is School on Wheels of Massachusetts and how did
you first get involved with them?

School on Wheels of Massachusetts is an organization dedicated
to supporting the educational needs of children impacted by
homelessness, providing them with the tools and resources necessary
to thrive in their schooling. My first engagement with them came
through Lisa Ponte, a friend and client, who embarked on an
ambitious project with her daughter to fill 10,000 School on
Wheels’ backpacks with daily inspirational cards through
their initiative, LP VIBES. Moved by their dedication and the
mission of School on Wheels, I contributed by donating towards the
purchase of these inspirational cards, deepening my understanding
and involvement with the organization through Lisa’s
introduction.

2. What work
have you done with Wheels of Massachusetts?

My involvement with Wheels of Massachusetts marked a memorable
debut in volunteering for this impactful organization, where
Jennifer and I found immense joy in assembling backpacks for 5th
and 6th graders. We meticulously filled each backpack with
essential school supplies such as notebooks, calculators, pencils,
and more, adding a personal touch with an inspirational message on
an index card to serve as a bookmark. The thoughtful consideration
in providing robust, varied-design backpacks ensures that these
gifts of knowledge are not identifiable as charity, preserving the
dignity and excitement of each recipient.

3. What draws you to the events and organizations you
participate in?

My inclination
towards events and organizations, particularly those dedicated to
aiding children, stems from a deep-seated desire to contribute to
their well-being and prospects. Participating in the 3,000 pushup
challenge for St. Jude this
March, alongside events like the 5k run with
Lauren O’Neill
for the same cause, reflects my commitment
to supporting initiatives that offer hope and assistance to young
lives. Furthermore, my years of involvement in MS 5k runs and bike
rides are motivated by a personal connection. I have two family
members battling MS, driving my passion for supporting and raising
awareness for this cause.

For the pushup challenge, I had to raise money for and do 3,000
pushups during March. So I do 100 pushups/day this challenges me
physically, but it is nothing compared to what these children
endure.

4. As a busy real estate professional, how do you stay
engaged in philanthropy? Why is giving back a
priority?

As a busy real estate professional, staying engaged in
philanthropy is essential for giving back to the community that
supports us. It’s about leveraging our resources and networks
to make a tangible impact, showcasing that our commitment extends
beyond transactions. Giving back is a priority because it
strengthens our connection to the community, underlining the belief
that our success is intrinsically linked to the well-being of
others. Through philanthropic endeavors, we not only contribute to
positive change but also inspire others in our industry to
prioritize social responsibility, ensuring a cycle of giving that
benefits all.

5. Do you have any recommendations for those considering
taking a deeper dive into philanthropy?

For those considering a deeper dive into philanthropy, I
recommend starting by identifying causes you are passionate about,
as this passion will fuel your commitment and efforts.
Additionally, seek out organizations with transparent operations
and measurable impacts, ensuring your contributions make a
significant difference in the areas you care about most.
