Selling a home is often one of the largest financial decisions
many of us make. DeAnne Dupont, the homeowner of 32 Oldham Road in
Arlington, Massachusetts, is uniquely transforming the transaction
process in an effort to give back to the community, pledging to
donate 2% of the gross sales proceeds to deserving local
non-profit organizations.
Ms. Dupont’s residence at 32 Oldham Road was renovated
with sustainability in mind. Her original oak flooring was
refinished with water-based products and she chose renewable bamboo
to floor her kitchen. Air-source heat pumps provide all
heating and cooling needs with operating costs partially offset by
roof-mounted solar panels. Added insulation, air sealing and triple
glazed windows help to maintain a comfortable home.
In the spirit of building a better future, Dupont plans to
donate 2% of the gross sales proceeds to each of two local
charities: Boston Building Resources and the Housing Corporation of
Arlington. “Having decent, safe and affordable housing is one
of the social determinants of health,” she said. “I
have been extremely fortunate with my home on Oldham Rd. to
experience this for over 30 years. It is important to me to
share my good fortunes with these two organizations that address
housing in two very different, but extremely important
ways.”
Boston Building Resources is a unique organization whose Reuse
Center accepts donations of quality used and surplus building
materials and sells them at affordable prices, with additional
discounts for low- and moderate-income customers and non-profit
organizations. Access to inexpensive materials from the Reuse
Center makes it possible for Boston-area homeowners to repair and
care for their homes on limited budgets, and, as a result, improve
the value of their home, neighborhoods and day-to-day lives.
The Housing Corporation of Arlington was founded in 1986 as a
coalition to combat rapidly increasing housing prices. Led by
dedicated Arlington residents, they own and operate 150 affordable
housing units, serving a wide range of incomes. The organization
also offers a Homelessness Prevention Grant Program, assisting with
back-rent, moving expenses and security deposits for residents at
risk of homelessness.
Sarah Suarez and Sarah Holt of Gibson Sotheby’s
International Realty are proud to represent this unique property
and support the opportunity to give back to the Arlington community
and beyond. “Every so often, we get an opportunity to market
a home that we are truly passionate about!” said Suarez.
“DeAnne is such an inspiration in her philanthropic values
and we couldn’t be more excited to help bring awareness to
two local organizations that she has worked so closely with for
years.”
