Classic, meet cultural. This star property has been featured in
Design New England and Fine Homebuilding for its
uniqueness. Blending Asian aesthetics with traditional New England
style, two worlds collide inside this 1850 brick townhome in
Bostons historic South End. The lower levels have been artfully
remastered, drawing from the rustic and harmonious elements of
Japan, while the upper levels retain the timeless elegance
signature to the area.
Architect John Tittmann of the award-winning firm Albert,
Righter & Tittmann, spared no expense when implementing his custom
remodel in the space downstairs. These lower levels were designed
to create an uber comfortable space for relaxing and entertaining,
complete with a chefs kitchen and spa-like bathroom.
The floating staircase leads to a Japanese rock garden, tatami
room, and sauna, but its hard to take your eyes off its beautiful
structure. Spiraling down the lower levels, the wooden stacked
steps settle at the bottom and soften into the rock garden bellow.
The Zen continues throughout the space, enhanced by an origami-like
plaster ceiling, rustic hand-hewn antique beams, and exposed
brick.
On the main level, classic design resumes with a gracious foyer
finished with intricate crown molding and tin ceiling treatments.
Brand new windows are sculpted from the detailed cream walls and
framed by warm cherry wood. Clean lines lead into the stately
library, complete with built-in book shelves and saturated with
natural light.
Two bedrooms comprise the second floor, both with marble
fireplaces and a bath. On the third floor, the master suite sprawls
out with complete comfort and privacy. The space is light and airy
with a closet-lined dressing area and roomy bath with a jetted tub,
shower, and Toto water closer.
This truly one-of-a-kind residence also has five-ton air
conditioning, custom LED lighting, radiant heated floors, two car
parking court, and is just steps away from wonderful shops and
restaurants.
