We
are pleased to present our Agent Spotlight on Jack
Bohman, an associate at Gibson Sothebys
International Realty in Chatham,
Massachusetts.

What did you do before
real estate and how did you get started in the
business?
I played college golf at the University of Virginia,
and after a couple of years at Merrill Lynch, I decided I wanted to
pursue my passion for helping to grow the game. Fast forward a
dozen years of traveling back and forth to Florida each winter, the
opportunity came about to help build, launch and operate Cape Cod
National Golf Club.
A few years later, I was recruited to do the same
thing at Black Rock Golf Club in Hingham, and then four years later
help launch The Bay Club in Mattapoisett. It was very fun and
rewarding work. Once we opened the Bay Club, I moved into the real
estate office and realized I had found my calling. They ran into a
little financial hiccup a couple of years into their operation when
the economy took a downturn and I jumped at the opportunity to
return to Chatham and work in a friend’s real estate office.
The many friends I met while building and operating golf clubs
remain an important part of my business to this day.
What is something your
clients find comfort in that makes them turn to you for their real
estate needs?
My family moved to Chatham in the mid-60s and we have
been a part of the fabric of the community ever since. Our clients
appreciate and count on the high level of local insight and
practical and frank honesty we bring to each and every
transaction.
What are some of your
favorite local hobbies, activities or organizations that you
participate in?
We kind of live two lives here on the Cape.
There’s our summer life, where we spend time with many new and
old friends who are only here in the warmer months. The summer is
usually a blur of real estate, social events, boating and golf.
There is nothing better than getting out on the water in Pleasant
Bay on a summers day.In the cold-weather months, we reacquaint
ourselves with our year-round friends. In the winter, we plot a few
escapes to warm climates and maybe a ski trip.
For the past eleven years, we have hosted Chatham
Anglers ballplayers. The Cape Cod Baseball League is magical and it
has been an honor to serve on the Anglers’ board for the past
eight years.
What do you love most
about where you live and work?
Small town life is fantastic. It is a treat to walk
into virtually any shop or restaurant and know the local owners and
staff by name. On the weekend, we see many of the same folks out on
their boats, at the beach or in a restaurant. We all look out for
one another and realize we are all in this together.
To work with an international firm in a small town is
a dream come true. We have the support and the horsepower of Gibson
Sothebys International Realty in our back pocket at all times while
we go about our business.
What are three sources of joy in your
week?
I am blessed to have my wife Sally on our team. Her
family has consisted of art dealers dating back to 1860. For over
fifty years, they had the Munson Gallery in Chatham. While Sally
still keeps her hand in the art world, we have drawn her more and
more into working on our team. Her reputation and experience
placing artwork in the homes of her high-net-worth clients adds a
wonderful dimension to our team. She also has a better appreciation
of what I experience on a daily basis and that makes for a stronger
marriage.
We have two boys, Mackenzie (24) and Lane (22).
Mackenzie just finished his fifth winter in Namibia, Africa
volunteering at a wildlife sanctuary. He was at Harnas Wildlife
Foundation with 20 to 30 young people from all over the world,
helping to care for injured animals in southern Africa. Lane is
going to be a senior at Babson College this fall and will be
co-captain of the golf team. Despite the pandemic, he has had a
terrific experience at Babson and is looking forward to his final
year of college.
It is the nature of our business that we meet new and
interesting people every week. We work amazingly close and often
have to tackle some challenging obstacles with people we have only
known for a short time. Nothing is more rewarding than being an
advocate for a client and being a part in helping them realize
their goals, and coming out on the other side with a new
friend.
