We are thrilled to
introduce CALA a new and truly inspired living opportunity at 1060
Broadway in Somerville, Massachusetts.

When Sebastian Mariscal responded to the City of Somervilles RFP
to redevelop the former Powder House Community School a brutalist
building with little light and connection to the landscape he saw
an opportunity to reunite 4 elements that feed the soul:
Community, Architecture, Landscape & Art.

From a building built of concrete and steel, Mariscal has carved
beautiful and rich living spaces, private canvases on which its
inhabitants will build their own life experiences. The ceilings are
high, the materials are rustic and warm, and, while all different,
the layouts support both quiet and animated time at home. Using
green roofs and lots of glass, Mariscal has made a seamless
connection between the inside and out. Designed to maximize green
space, there are public, semi public, and private outdoor spaces,
offering every resident multiple ways to be outside. And woven into
the exterior of the building are over 70 panels on which artists
will make public art. Over time, CALA will increasingly be filled
with murals and other types of creative expression, creating an
Urban Museum that does not require a ticket to get in.

CALA was designed to be engaging, to offer opportunities for
human interaction and to live a more joyful life. We hope you will
