Hotel in The Fenway
No longer will there be a Howard Johnson Hotel behind
Americas Most Beloved Ballpark, Fenway Park. Just recently, news
was released that detailed the transitioning from The Howard
Johnson Hotel to The Verb Hotel, which will occur this summer.
What initially began as the Fenway Motor Hotel at 1271
Boylston Street way back in 1959, this spectacular location has
been an iconic hotel fixture in The Fenway
neighborhood for decades. The 94-room hotel will be completely
redone to the highest quality and promises to, according to the
developers Samuels & Associates, …meld the best of Bostons past,
with the vibrant, spirited culture of the modern-day Fenway
neighborhood.
These developers behind the project already have
committed over $1 Billion in investments around The Fenway
neighborhoods for various residential, commercial, and retail
spaces that will help further improve the area.
The property was purchased by Samuels & Associates
back in December of 2013 for a sales price that has yet to be
released. However, the Boston-based developers did take out a $25.4
Million mortgage from Brookline Savings Bank according to the
Suffolk Registry of Deeds in order to complete the deal.
Overall, renovation costs will be upwards of $3
Million to bring the new 43,000 square foot Verb Hotel to the
premier standard intended. This property represents the first hotel
property for Samuels & Associates, and because of this, the firm
has partnered up with Weiner Ventures and Spot-On Ventures
(developers of the Mandarin Oriental Boston).
Steve Samuels, the Principal of Samuels & Associates,
released in a statement that, We saw a real opportunity to create
something unique in this space, while respecting the independent
spirit of the local community, building on the arts culture in
Fenway and delivering
real hospitality in a world that moves too fast.
Crescent Hotels & Resorts have been selected to manage The Verb
Hotel due to its forward-thinking design and fresh brand concept.
Once completed, the interior stairway walls and public spaces of
the hotel will feature pop-culture memorabilia from Bostons
history. Some of this will come in the form of Boston Phoenix
covers and photographs of musicians who performed locally or
appeared on WFNX used as artwork, and upbeat music that will be
pleasantly played throughout. Upon the grand opening of this new
hotel in the not too distant future, the excitement around Fenway
Park and this neighborhoods overall progression will only continue
to build. Real estate in The Fenway is clearly
on the up.
