Sotheby’s Auction House: Jony Ive & Marc Newson Designed Watches for the (RED) Auction

Quite recently we reported about the much anticipated
auction that will be taking place at Sothebys in New York on
November 23rd in support of the (RED) charity. With a blade-like aluminium desk
with 185 interlocking cells and a Leica Camera being auctioned
off
, the massive popularity of these items stems from the
designers behind it all.

Curated by world-famous designers Marc Newson and Jony
Ive (Sir Jonathon Ive), the two are sure to bring in a great deal
of money at this auction that is fighting for such an important
global cause. Mr. Newson has established himself as an incredibly
versatile individual who has worked with countless brands for an
array of products. Mr Ive has been the top designer for Apple for
years, and is the man behind the development of the Mac operating
system interfaces that millions of people throughout the planet
have grown a passion for. So what else could this dynamic duo be
partnering up on for the upcoming Sothebys auction?

News just in that music sensation Bonos (RED) AIDS
charity will also feature watches designed by Ive and Newson. The
first, a Marc Newson version, comes from Swiss watchmaker
Jaeger-LeCoultre, with unique red elements implemented into the
piece to signify the occasion. One item is a version of the Atmos
clock from the 1920s, with the Atmos 561 coming customized in a
crystal case. The next is thought to be a more exciting piece, a
Jony Ive creation, is inspired by the Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox
Tribute to Deep Sea wrist watch. The limited edition pays homage to
the same watch that was built over fifty years ago.

It is brilliant to see the Sothebys brand support such deserving
causes as (RED) and everything they stand for. The partnership of
Jony Ive & Marc Newson with (RED) and Sothebys is not only brings
exciting new pieces for sale to the global clientele who
attentively follow the Sothebys brand. More importantly in this
circumstance, is the realization that all of the proceeds will be
going towards something that is bigger than ourselves; to those
truly in need.
