Energy efficiency is becoming so popular amongst businesses that
Bostons Mayor, Thomas M. Menino has even proposed an energy scoring
ordinance that would rate commercial properties in order to
encourage landlords to invest in energy saving technologies. In
fact, the Environmental Protection Agency has recognized Boston as
the #10 city Nationwide for energy efficiency. Out of a list of the
top 25 cities, this distinction is something the Hub can be
immensely proud over.
The last time Boston was ranked so high was back in 2011 when
the city also came in at the #10 spot. This year there were 188
buildings which have been formally certified as Energy Star rated
and the overall decrease in greenhouse emissions from annual
electricity use has saved upwards of $67.5 Million in utility bills
for the city. Throughout the nation as a whole, $2.7 Billion in
annual utility bills were saved by the end of 2012 from the over
20,000 Energy Star certified buildings. The rest of the top 10 can
