Westwood News: High School Awarded Blue Ribbon Status

Westwood Massachusetts, Westwood Public Schools, Westwood High School, Blue Ribbon High Schools, US Department of Education

Just in the last week the residents of Westwood were
notified of some truly fantastic news. The Westwood High School was
named a Blue Ribbon High School by the U.S. Department of
Education! What this entails is that Westwood High School, or WHS,
was one of only 38 High Schools both public and private that was
given this incredible honor of being by definition, Exemplary High
Performing.

The U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan brought forth the
announcement. It is such a big deal as not only is this the
absolute highest honor any High School nationwide can earn, but
certain invites from each High School are being honored in
Washington D.C. from November 12th until the 13th for what will be
a very rewarding, special ceremony.

The awards are decided by looking at thousands of High Schools
performance in National-Normed or State examinations. Sean Bevan,
the Westwood High School Principal is ecstatic beyond belief at
this increased attention the school is receiving and will continue
to receive due to this news. Its really a remarkable achievement, it
reiterates what I already knew: Westwood High is a unique and
terrific place to send your kid. Im just really thrilled. It must
be noted that Bevan gives all of the credit to the students, the
parents and the great teachers that Bevan and his team work
diligently to recruit and retain at the High School year after
year.

The Superintendent of Schools in Westwood, John Antonucci, as
well shared that the great recognition that WHS has just been
awarded is greatly due to Emily Parks. A woman who currently is
Antonuccis Assistant Superintendent, she also made positive strides
for the school in the past as she is the former Principal at WHS
before Bevan was. Moreover, another strong reason backing this
designation is largely due to all of the other schools in the town,
those P-K through 8th Grade. It is because of these elementary and
middle schools where the students begin to grow as intellectuals,
athletes and future contributing members to society. The strong
connection that all of the schools have with one another must not
go unnoticed, Antonucci knows that this evidently is not just an
award for WHS but is one for the whole town and its greater school
system of Westwood as well.
