Mayor Thomas M. Menino and his administration have graciously
opted to donate $3.2 Million of city funds to help improve the
situation in Bostons Downtown Crossing neighborhood. The once
thriving district known for shopping, the area is in need of some
much needed attention in order to ensure that the businesses and
residents in the area are able to stay there and succeed while
doing so. In a recent blog we discussed some of the future plans of
the area with the selling of 59 Temple
Place being the hot topic.
Some of the main issues to be addressed with this city funding
will be repaving many of the roads, replacing signs and build new,
fresh sidewalks. As of this past Monday, the 23rd of July, the
Mayor himself was even in attendance in Downtown Crossing for a
block party that was held at a recently opened restaurant on West
Street known as Back Deck Boston. His apparent support for the
shopping district is certainly not going unnoticed.
There is even word that private investors are looking at
spending as much as $10 Million in Downtown Crossing as well. This
substantial funding will go towards an array of things, one that
has been released, it must be noted, is to build an updated and
attractive entrance to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation
Authority (MBTA) there. The efforts of Mr. Menino, his
administration, and the other groups looking to invest is
resonating around the Downtown Crossing community who have higher
expectations than ever for the future. A broad-sweeping more
optimistic outlook on the direction their businesses, lifestyle and
overall neighborhood is headed in.
