Have you been wondering about what is to come of the old Boston
Herald site located at the Massachusetts Turnpike and the Southeast
Expressway? Surrounded by Herald, Harrison, Traveler, and Albany
streets, this location is one that has received a great deal of
attention of late. Actually, we even recently blogged
about some of the first plans that hit the newsstands earlier in
the year regarding this now vacant property. Then, a mere three
weeks later other reports about the project’s proposals was
discussed in yet another blog. Now,
headlines are surrounding Whole Foods Inc. who is now surfacing as
the front runner to occupy this area and this would add to its
already four Boston outlets already in business today.

National Development, the Newton Real Estate
firm shared that they will be tearing down the current two-story
old Boston Herald facility and replace it with four new buildings.
This new development will be comprised of retail stores,
restaurants, 475 apartments and the hopeful plans for the new Whole
Foods market.

After opening yet another store in Jamaica Plain, Whole Foods
Inc. is looking to expand but it is not only them who is hoping to
be the grocery store in this new facility. Wegmans Food Markets is
also eying this property. After opening their first location in the
State of Massachusetts in the Fall of 2011 in Northborough, the
firm is also looking to establishing their presence in Burlington
and Chestnut Hill as well as somewhere in Boston. In the coming
months we undoubtedly will hear much more about these possible
plans and it is something that will completely and positively
transform this district of Boston for the prolonged future.
