Are you ready for the South End Garden Tour, a self guided tour
of private and community gardens in historic Boston? This coming
Saturday the 16th of June from 10AM until 4PM, there will once
again be the unique opportunity for gardeners, plant lovers, and
nature enthusiasts to tour around roughly thirty of the public and
hidden agricultural gems tucked away throughout this storied
neighborhood of Boston.
If one pays $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the tour, they
will be some of the lucky individuals who will peruse around
rooftop terraces, patio gardens, community gardens, neighborhood
parks and other recreational spaces. Never before has one of the
annual South End Garden Tours ever been similar to another from the
past. There are continuously changing routes and featured locations
to be admired in the Union Park area and SoWa district, which
covers much of East Newton, West Newton, East Berkeley, Albany, and
Tremont Streets. Thus is the reason why anticipation for this year
is already said to be at its peak level.
Beginning at the Boston Center For the Arts at 539 Tremont
Street at 10AM, some of the more notable destinations for this
popular tour include the Harrison Urban Garden rooftop above an
underground parking lot, as well as Berkeley Gardens with its
inspiring Asian influences. Artists in the Garden will also be
present once again in the various green spaces participating in
this lovely occasion. At the end of the tour, around 4PM as
mentioned above, these notable artists will even be selling their
work from the day to the public. Displaying these paintings at the
City Year Lavine Civic Forum at 287 Columbus Avenue, purchasing one
truly provides the best way to remember such an event and cherish
your own pictorial piece depicting Bostons agricultural scene.
All proceeds from this day will benefit the South End Lower
Roxbury Open Space Land Trust who are the ones responsible for
managing sixteen pocket parks and community gardens all throughout
