Concord News: Pushing for Solar Power

Concord News, Solar Power, Energy Efficiency, Concord Energy, Energy Solutions

It is quite funny how the copycat syndrome is seemingly taking
over much of Boston. First we will report about positive strides made
in the Real Estate market in one suburban town such as Somerville, only to
be followed by yet more wonderful news about another location soon
after. This continuous spread of enlightenment is apparent yet
again, this time with regards to solar power. As was discussed in a
past blog, the MBTA
in Dedham is looking to build
8,500 panels in the very near future. Now, as it stands, Concord is also
following suit.

At a recent town meeting, Concord officials were heavily
debating issues regarding cats and water bottles. These seemingly
overshadowed some fantastic progress in Concords attempts to
Greenify themselves as well. Three different articles; 35, 36 and
37, were passed that will give Concord Selectmen the flexibility to
both purchase and even lease areas of land dedicated for the use of
future solar panels. This runs parallel with Concords hopes of
creating a strategic advantage for being able to create more
sustainable energy solutions that will benefit them both today and
in the long run.

Here is a brief rundown of the three aforementioned
Articles:

Article 35 – Permits the town to enter into a
long-term lease for municipal land for the purpose of producing
clean and affordable energy solutions for the towns residents and
businesses Article 36 – Allows the towns Selectmen
to purchase 79-acres for $1.2 Million. The land is currently owned
by W.R. Grace Company and will be used for solar energy in the
future Article 37 – Gives the town the ability to
lease some of the same 79-acre property to an agency or company for
the installation of a large photovoltaic energy generating
facility
