South End Real Estate: New Development? Maybe.

There is yet another project in Boston to get excited about. The
South End may soon be impacted by a large development that
will re-shape and re-define this portion of the neighborhood. The
Boston Herald has recently vacated a site in the South End that
they occupied for years to now be located at the Seaport District.
National Development, the new owners of this large 6-acre property,
are the en-visionaries who are planning quite the
transformation.

475 apartments ranging from one to three bedrooms are the
primary goal for this project. Of course, holding firm with the law
and public expectations, 15% of these units will be made into
affordable housing living spaces. Many shops, fine-dining
restaurants, and even a large grocery store are all going to be
combined into what the developers are terming the area, The Ink
Block. 400 spaces for parking, as well as an array of other smaller
and larger buildings from five up to the nine story rendering of a
building to be at Herald Street and Harrison Avenue, are all being
proposed.

An authentic city block is the feel that is hoped will
eventually be created. Differentiating architectural styles, colors
and purposes of the buildings and spaces are all contributing to
this notion. Although no word has been publicly released as to the
dollar amount for such an overhaul of this plot, but estimates are
up in the hundreds of millions for now. Only time will tell if this
project will break ground and how long it will take until
completion. However, if it does, it is going to be one of the
largest residential developments this city has ever seen.
