What is the Wharf District of Boston? Is it its own
neighborhood, one that will remain as an after thought to Downtown and the
Financial District, or something else? Here are some results from a
public online poll:
- 12.8% insist that the Wharf District is already a
neighborhood - 59% feel the Financial District and Downtown is what the Wharf
District is apart of - 28.2% voted that the Wharf District is currently not defined as
a neighborhood but encourage the continuous efforts for it to
eventually become one
The Innovation District, (as we mentioned in several previous blog posts) as well as the
Boston Waterfront are
also attempting the very thing the Wharf District is. Moreover,
this movement is simply to establish a place full of communal
spaces, shops, stores, restaurants, increased availability of jobs
and other factors that will undoubtedly make these places forever
known as a neighborhood of their own.
Half of the battle is altering public opinion on the matter. The
Wharf District Council is a team of individuals striving to improve
this very thing. An area known as Broad Street will be the primary
location for a pedestrian friendly walk complete with a long row of
new restaurants. In addition, some projects in the works are the
Rowes Wharf and Harbor Towers, which will consist of first-class
condominiums and a new vibrant business and restaurant scene.
Without a doubt, any improvements to an area, be it for
business, leisure, or residential purposes should be heavily
supported. We can only look forward to everything the future Wharf
District has to offer.
