Quincy Center Redevelopment Project

Quincy Center is going to completely changed within the next
several years. Starting in 2013, the Beal Cos. and the Street-Works
company are teaming up for a revitalization project that may take a
number of years to complete, but will fundamentally change how we
perceive Quincy Center.

Beal has worked on the development of The Clarendon building in
Bostons Back Bay, much of the
biotech projects in Cambridge, and renovated the art deco
Batterymarch in the Financial District of Boston as well as the
Park Square building. With all of this experience and expertise,
this redevelopment initiative will be one of their greatest,
expected to set these firms back $1.6 billion. A staggering figure,
it has been made slightly easier from funding efforts sponsored by
the state of Massachusetts which put forward $60 million. Moreover,
the city of Quincy has borrowed $289 million that will primarily go
towards building up the infrastructure and roads that will not only
speed along this building process but will also benefit the city
once the project has been completed as well.

Wider sidewalks, at least 30 new restaurants, a public green,
entertainment areas, a farmers market, higher education
institutions, world-renowned businesses, two 20-story office
buildings, a new parking garage, a new retail facility, and finally
200 loft-style residences all are in the works to fit within 20
blocks and will result in a total of 3.5 million square feet of
added space! All of this, which is certainly a mouthful to say the
least, and perplexing as it may seem, did not receive much scrutiny
at all from the public once these plans had been released. Instead,
residents are hinting that they are tired of the status-quo of
their city, and that a drastic change like this would improve all
of their lives and for future generations. Quincy absolutely will
be back on the map as a destination just 8 miles outside of
Beantown.

7,500 construction jobs during the building process and 11,000
permanent working jobs thereafter are the anticipated numbers the
city will benefit from. A memorable environment, new cobble stone
streets complete with classic outdoor restaurants and cafes all
make for an exciting 24-hour city that we can not wait to get to
know just down the road!
