I work out of ourSouth Endoffice. My
route often takes me down Tremont Street in the search of my
morning coffee or afternoon bag of cookies (there, I admit it.) For
the past couple of weeks Ive been eyeing a new retail space that
has been generating a lot of commotion in the area. This past
Tuesday I decided to stop by with a couple members of our marketing team to
check it out.
Sault offers
something new and interesting to Boston’s South
Endneighborhood. Located next to Stephi’s on Tremont Street it
has a prime real estate location. The shop sells vintage mensware
and an interesting mix of gifts as well as an eclectic mix of other
items. During my visit there I saw everything from in-house
designed t-shirts to beer soap, pocket knives and quirky books. We
chatted with Philip Saul, the owner and sole employee.
The store itself is decorated with an interesting mix of glass
terrariums (an very creative way to merchandise wallets and pocket
knives), antique saws and split wood. Saults decor is an artful
combination of woodsy, modern and vintage. Moreover, I was
pleasantly surprised to discover that much of the merchandise that
Philip has to offer was very reasonably priced. A lot of it is
produced in the United States.
After chatting with Philip for a while he confided in me that
one of his biggest goals is to be . . . that little place that
you have to show family and friends visiting from out of town. .
. and that he doesnt want Sault to “. . .be just a guy
just sitting behind a desk staring at a computer. . .
Philip is an energetic character who loves chatting with
customers and putting his own unique spin on fashion and gift
items. During my visit he kept the conversation moving briskly and
always seemed to have an interesting take on what I had to say.
No stranger to Boston (a ten year resident) he had no end of
good things to say about our fair city, describing it as . . .
a really interesting mix of historic and green, not the kind of
place you feel is a concrete jungle. . .
I can definitely say that I can think of a couple friends who
will be visiting this holiday season that Ill have to take for a
walk down Tremont. I think this interesting little shop is a
perfect match for Boston’s South
End.
